Department of Water and Sanitation continues the use of the HydroNET platform for all South African Proto-Catchment Management Agencies

We are pleased to announce to continue the provision of HydroNET for another two years through the South African Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS).

The call to action of the National Water and Sanitation Master Plan (NW&SMP) seeks to rally all water sector stakeholders in South Africa to work together, in order to ensure that by 2030 and beyond South Africa has a sufficient reserve of supply to take it safely into the future, that accelerated progress is made towards meeting Constitutional imperatives and that service delivery commitments are met under the Sustainable Development Goal.

To support this call to action, South African water professionals have access to HydroNET, a proven web-based decision support system that combines weather & water data with models and knowledge to generate personalised overviews, forecasts and warnings tailored to the needs of the clients and stakeholders. With this system water professionals can make well-informed, transparent and accountable decisions for managing water resources and for sharing relevant information with stakeholders and partners. The HydroNET system with its key weather and water applications will capacitate the WMA’s with real time access to various dashboards, reports and tools empowering them to make the right decisions at the right time in a country where every raindrop is critical for the sustainability of water management in South Africa.

The Department launched the HydroNET project on the 04 May 2022 at Nelspruit. The launch showcased the IUCMA and PUCMA case studies. It provided water users an opportunity to understand the benefits of the system as well as reinforce the importance of having reliable data to ensure resilient water resources.
